Stellar smash it out of the park, in aid of Hummingbird House

Written by Grace-Adele Willis | Sep 27, 2018

Last month, Stellar partnered with Hummingbird House, Queensland’s only children’s hospice in their inaugural T20 Celebrity Cricket Match.

This match was one not to be missed, it had it all, from big hits to bigger misses and most importantly raised over $10,000 for Hummingbird House.

This fierce competition saw two of Stellar’s management team, Shaun McCambridge, Managing Director and Paul Gardner, General Manager, face off as team captains.  Shaun captaining the blue team and Paul captaining the purple team. The teams were a combination of Stellar’s clients, Stellar’s staff and celebrities including; Scott Hill, Michael Crocker & Shaun Berrigan (ex-NRL stars), Allen Christensen (Brisbane Lions), Caitlyn Nevins (Queensland Firebirds), David Sutherland & Drew Naylor (Brisbane Bandits), Carlo Napolitano (The Sport Project) and Erin Holland (IPL Anchor).

The game was swinging toward a win for the blue teams way after huge batting efforts from Michael Crocker & David Sutherland; however, nearing the end of the game, with their team captain at the crease, the purple team needed 41 runs off the last 12 balls to steal the win. After a few wides and a couple of big swings, the game heated up.

In the end the purple team walking away victorious, finishing on 3 for 188 whilst the blue team are already in the planning stages for next year, finishing on 8 for 163.

The competition then continued throughout the charity auction, the friendly rivalry spurring the bidding along nicely.

Allen Christensen from the Brisbane Lions is already excited about next year’s match.

“It was a great day with a great bunch of people who were all there to support the same cause. To be able to help Hummingbird House was an honour and I look forward to doing it again in the future.”

Thank you to all who helped make this year’s Stellar Smash a success. All funds raise go directly to Hummingbird House, Queensland’s only children’s hospice.

We are passionate about giving back to the community and doing what we can to make a difference and are already busy planning next year’s event.
