A Foot in the Door: Civil to Mining

Hubspot Blog Cover (1)-8

Let’s address the growing concerns from both employers and job seekers to further expand the next generation of coal miners in the Bowen Basin.

With the current high demand for production operators in the coal industry, we are branching out to partner with our employers to give them innovative workforce solutions in order to create new career opportunities for job seekers.

While I’ve worked with providing opportunities for operators with experience as well as the new to industry field, I’ve noticed that there is still a gap in the market for those with civil operating experience. These job seekers often find themselves missing out on the experienced operator roles as well as being over looked for entry level roles due to being too experienced or qualified.

I am excited to be partnering with a mining employer to introduce a program to upskill civil operators to give them a start in the production mining sector. This is a great opportunity for civil operators to take the next step in their career and transfer their skills into the mining industry. It is beneficial for our employers to work with operators that already have a solid understanding of operating machines, as they will pick up the skills far quicker; meaning less training and resources are absorbed.

If you are based in the Mackay region, have more than 12 months experience in civil, operating dozers & graders here are the benefits of getting your foot in the “production” door:

  • Even time 7/7 roster
  • 12.5 hour days & nights
  • BIBO from Mackay
  • 6 month retention bonus’
  • Wet weather remuneration
  • Camp & meals provided
  • Potential to upskill to coal production operations
